Article: Jury selection to start in biker's death

While the man he struck lay dying by the side of the road, Gerald Gold ate a cheeseburger and fries, police and prosecutors allege.

Gold was drunk when he drove his van into bicyclist Thad Martens at about midnight on Aug. 14, 2004, said Deerfield Deputy Police Chief Rick Wilk.

Martens, 40, of Wausau, Wis., who suffered brain damage, died six months later.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Sept. 10 for Gold, who works as an attorney. A grand jury indicted Gold for reckless homicide (enhanced), aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to report an accident involving death and personal injury.
