A Gurnee resident and veterans' advocate formally announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 8th Congressional District Sept. 13.
Kirk Morris is the third candidate to join the Republican primary, the winner of which will challenge sophomore Democratic Rep. Melissa Bean in next year's general election.
He made a public announcement at the Veterans Memorial outside the Gurnee Police Station at O'Plaine and Washington streets.
Morris, an international sales and marketing executive with Flexfuel U.S. in Park Ridge, is running on a platform to support the Iraq war and veterans' benefits as well as tougher immigration laws.
