A Gurnee resident and veterans' advocate on Sept. 13 formally announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 8th Congressional District.

Kirk Morris is the third candidate to announce they're running in the Republican primary. Sophomore Democrat Rep. Melissa Bean holds the seat.

Morris, an international sales and marketing executive with Flexfuel U.S. in Park Ridge, is running on a platform to support the Iraq war and veterans' benefits as well as tougher immigration laws.

"We need to finish our mission in Iraq with victory, we need to treat all our returning vets with the same zeal they defended us, and we need to secure and control our borders," Morris said. "There is an enemy ...
