Article: New Lenox next Chicago-area boom town

When the southern extension of Interstate 355 opens in November, it will be as if a pipeline of commerce, growth and development is laid at the doorstep of New Lenox.

The new toll road will connect Interstate 80 in New Lenox with Interstate 55 in Bolingbrook.

Regional planners project the village to quadruple in size by 2030 to 90,652 residents - making it the largest town between Joliet and Indiana.

Residents such as Derrick Cannon, who moved his young family to New Lenox last year to run a new Berkot's Super Foods in town, are eager for more of what I-355 has to offer.

"I'm curious to see what will happen," Cannon said. "I know my home's value will go up."
