Construction has begun on a 4,700-foot-long water pipeline under Sanders Road that will allow Northbrook to sell water to neighboring Riverwoods by year's end.
The new 12-inch water main, which will connect to Northbrook's water main near the southwest corner of Sanders and Lake Cook roads, will stretch to a 1-million-gallon reservoir owned and operated by Riverwoods.
The pipe will carry Lake Michigan water that Northbrook pumps and treats and send it to the reservoir, Public Works Supervisor Ken Gardner said.
During construction, traffic will be reduced in westbound lanes on Lake Cook Road and southbound lanes on Saunders. Lane closings for each road could last about a week, said Riverwoods ...
