Paul Hoerer avoided a second trial for his role in a drug-induced homicide in Barrington by pleading guilty Tuesday to involuntary manslaughter.
A jury previously found Hoerer, 32, of Algonquin guilty of involuntary manslaughter and drug delivery. The state Appellate Court overturned that verdict last August after Hoerer had completed serving the five-year sentence (less credit for good behavior) and parole.
The Appellate Court ruling had left open the possibility of a second trial.
