Outside of their family members, people are more likely to confide their personal problems to their barber or hairdresser.
With that in mind, Michelle Rathman, owner of Impact Communications in St. Charles, started Shop Talk, which teaches salon, spa and babershop owners and their staff about how to inform and educate their clients about the importance of disease prevention and early detection.
"Most of the women I know see their hair stylist or massage therapist more than their doctor and we tell them everything," said Rathman, who recently celebrated her 10th anniversary as a cancer survivor.
