In the beginning, it was simply a way for online retailers, or e-retailers, to compete with "Black Friday," the brick-and-mortar shopping fiasco after Thanksgiving Day. But now, just two years later, "Cyber Monday" has become "the ceremonial kickoff to the online holiday shopping season," according to the National Retail Federation.
