Article: Another Take: Remembering Henry Hyde

It is sadly ironic that while Illinoisans are inflicted

with daily reminders of the intellectual derelicts in public office with

which we are afflicted, we also must now endure the passing of one of the

true statesmen of American politics in the last half-century. Henry Hyde

served as the negative composite of today's politics. Across a sea of

petty, obsequious, fork-tongued flim-flam men, Hyde was a beacon of

nobility, original thought and moral clarity. Until he retired last year,

Henry Hyde was my congressman, so call me a homer because I was an

unabashed, die-hard fan. Hyde engendered the same loyalty among his
