Gardens of South Africa programCarolyn Ulrich, award-winning editor of Chicagoland Gardening magazine, will present a slide lecture on "The Gardens of South Africa" at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St. Learn how the diverse horticulture of South Sponsored by the Garden Club of Oak Park-River Forest, the lecture is free and open to the public.

According to Ulrich, South Africa is one of the richest places on the planet, horticulturally speaking. Roughly the size of the United States east of the Mississippi, it has climates ranging from tropical to desert to Alpine.
