Even if it's only a sensation of light waves at variable lengths teasing the retina, color moves us.

Warm reds, oranges and yellows evoke feelings of comfort -- but also anger and hostility. Cool blue, purple and green can be calming -- as well as sad or distant.

Each year painting companies predict what will be home fashion's "it" colors for the coming year, but this doesn't always square with local color mavens' ideas -- except that color choice has no hard and fast rules, only that you should be comfortable with your choice, because color is part of each one's individual language.
