Article: Board OKs property tax levy

By Lynda J. Hemmerling STAFF WRITER After a recent public hearing, the Crete Village Board approved the 2007 property tax levy. Although no residents spoke during the brief hearing, a Williamsburg resident voiced concern during an earlier village board meeting. Jimmie Whitney said the board cannot place the burden of taxes completely on the shoulders of residents.

"You just can't break down the homeowner for all the taxes you want," she said. "Crete has to look at other areas to get taxes." Whitney said the village needs to "move out of the 19th Century" and attract more businesses to the area.
