Judging by the list of famous French composers, you might think no one was writing music in France before 1800. Most of the country's best-known composers, from Berlioz to Satie, were born in the 19th century.
And yet, France produced some wonderful music during the Baroque era and earlier, says Skokie violinist Martin Davids, director of the Callipygian Players. The only thing is, it rarely gets played today.
Davids and his fellow players will remedy that with an all-French concert Sunday in the Early Music concert series at Grayslake's Byron Colby Barn.
