Article: Park Forest remembers its 'free spirit'

Otto Meine was a regular at the Park Forest Public Library for years,

until someone noticed his absence last month.

Meine would come early and stay late. He would often be seen reading,

playing chess and when someone struck up a conversation with him, it

would soon turn to literature or classic music.

His reading material, say library personnel, would usually be one of

the recognized epics of literature or philosophy, from Proust to

Plato; or from Homer to Hemingway.

"He would sit and read most of the day," said library clerk Grayson

Stamm. "He was a regular at the library. I don't think a week went by

without his presence."
