Article: Upscale car wash bids to replace hot dog stand on Touhy Avenue

A longtime hot dog stand at the intersection of Touhy Avenue and Riverside Drive may soon become an upscale hand car wash.

The Niles Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a special use permit for the car wash on Jan. 7, as well as a request to reduce the required number of parking spots from 20 to 10.

Commissioners said the new business at 6747 W. Touhy would be a start in brightening that area of the village, one which Chairman James Callero called an "eyesore."

"We have a structure (in the car wash) that is clearly going to revitalize the area," said Commissioner Alan Weel.
