Article: Average daily Kane jail population down in '07

GENEVA - The actual average daily population of the Kane County jail was down in 2007.

In 2006, the jail averaged 623 prisoners a day, including ones housed at

the jail and in other counties. That average daily population went down to

615 prisoners a day in 2007.

But both figures are up substantially from the average daily population

of 529 in 2005.

The numbers give the inescapable conclusion that the number of prisoners

is going up as the size of the county increases, county officials said.

But Jim Robertson, the county's jail and judicial system consultant,
