Article: World War II vet enjoyed distinguished career

U.S. Army veteran Mitchell J. Przybycien, of New Lenox, who served as a combat infantryman in World War II, tells of his experiences while serving with the Americal Division as a combat infantry man.

On Dec. 7, 1941, the day the Japanese struck Pearl Harbor, Przybycien

went to the Marine office to enlist, but was turned down because he

was color blind. But Przybycien was determined to serve his country.

He went to the Navy and Army offices, but was turned down.

By 1942, the military wasn't as picky. He was drafted into the

Army in January and served through October 1945.
