But if you think you have mild symptoms of SAD or even a bad case of the winter blues, you can try treating yourself with light therapy, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Bright white fluorescent bulbs with color temperatures between 3,000 and 6,500 Kelvin have all proven effective in treating SAD, according to NAMI, while the more-expensive "full-spectrum" bulbs are not necessary. Depending on the product, light therapy devices usually cost between $250-$550.
