Fans of the South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade will get their
green on early this year.
The parade committee realized about two years ago that this year's
traditional parade day - the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day - would
fall on Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week. So for the first time in
its history, the parade committee moved the parade to a week earlier
than usual.
"Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week," said Tom McNamara, this
year's parade coordinator. "Holy Week is a somber and reflective time
leading up to Easter. It's not a time for a big celebration and
parties."
