For 34 years, a sisterhood of women has been active in the southern
suburbs.
The organization - the Joliet Area South Suburban Alumnae Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority - is a nonprofit group of college-educated
women committed to the development of its members and to public
service with a primary focus on the African-American community.
The local sorority chapter of 200 members includes entrepreneurs,
teachers, ministers, doctors and other professionals from Matteson,
Homewood, Tinley Park, Mokena and other southern suburbs.
The organization provides scholarships to high school seniors to
pursue college degrees and technical certifications. The scholarships
