NORMAL- Maybe there's an implosive new major around Illinois State called ''self-earthing.''
Because for the umpteenth time Monday night, the Redbirds buried themselves. This time, in an eminently winnable second-round game of the NIT, ISU flat-winged through a brutal scoreless stretch of 10:36 in the second half and lost to Dayton 55-48.
''Every game is different, every opponent is different, but during that stretch, I was thinking, 'It sure would be helpful if we could hit a basket,''' Illinois State coach Tim Jankovich said later.
