Geneva and St. Charles police are warning residents to keep their global positioning system units out of sight when they are out of their cars.
Both communities are reporting a recent rash of vehicle break-ins in which dashboard-mounted GPS units have been stolen.
St. Charles police said that during the week of March 23-28, there were five motor vehicle burglaries in various places around town, and in each one a GPS unit was taken.
Most of the burglaries occurred in parking lots - at the Hilton Hotel, a parking lot at 100 Hunt Club Drive, Cumberland Green Apartment Complex parking lot and at the lot for the Animal House Veterinary Clinic. Three occurred at night and two during the day.
