CHICAGO REAL ESTATE BEATS U.S. AVERAGE

Chicago homeowners trying to sell their homes in March got better results than their peers nationwide, as the median price of single-family homes and condominiums in the city increased 5.3 percent, to $300,000, from a year ago. Sales remained dismal, declining 11.5 percent, to 2,045 sales of homes and condos, compared with March 2007, according to data released Tuesday by the National Association of Realtors and the Illinois Association of Realtors. Nationwide, home sales fell 19.3 percent in March, while the median price dropped 7.7 percent.
