Standing in front of a sign proclaiming "I am not a politician," Republican Marty Ozinga III officially kicked off his campaign Wednesday for the south suburban and Downstate 11th Congressional District.
"I am proud to be conservative," Ozinga said. "I believe we need less government in our lives, not more."
GOP chairmen in the district's eight counties on Wednesday unanimously selected Ozinga to replace Tim Baldermann, the New Lenox mayor who won February's primary but abruptly quit weeks later.
Will County GOP Chairman Richard Kavanagh said Ozinga was chosen because of his record running Ozinga Bros., a concrete company.
