Elizabeth ChipuraElizabeth Laverne Ruby Chipura, 88, a longtime Park Ridge resident, died May 27 at St. Matthew's Center for Health in Park Ridge.

Mrs. Chipura, daughter of Gertrude Sunderman Ruby and granddaughter of John and Charlotte Sunderman, early settlers of Park Ridge, was a graduate of Maine East High School, North Park College and Northwestern University.

Upon completing her university studies, defying convention, she enlisted for military service and served in both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Afterward, she moved to New York, where she worked at the landmark bookseller Scribner's on Fifth Avenue and later as a teacher in the New York City public school system.
