Not only are satellite tracking devices -- often called GPS units -- increasingly popular with drivers to avoid getting lost, but also for thieves looking to make some quick cash.
In LaPorte, for example, windows in three vehicles in one night were shattered to steal portable GPS units.
GPS stands for Global Positioning System.
LaPorte Police Detective Paul Brettin said the portable GPS units are usually fastened to windshields by suction cups.
Since they can be easily removed, owners are advised to take them inside after parking their vehicles.
