Article: Local residents open yards for annual garden walks

Andrew Rozdilsky of South Elgin has a sign at the entrance of his backyard that says, "Welcome to," with a pair of dice underneath the words. He says it translated to, "Welcome to paradise."

He says co-workers teased him about spending $20,000 on his 75- by 35-foot garden pond nine years ago.

When he sits under his canopy with an iris trellis listening to the waterfall, he doesn't care.

"I say we could have gone to Hawaii twice for that much money, but we have paradise every night at home," he said. "Neighbors come over and see the waterfall and it is really easy to sit in the family room and fall asleep with the sound of the water in the background."
