Getting dates the week before the British Open hasn't made it easy for organizers of the John Deere Classic to draw a strong field, but they found a way to solve that problem. All they had to do was charter a 100-seat 767 jet aircraft.
''It was a big deal,'' tournament director Clair Peterson said. ''Obviously our dates and location made it difficult for players to get to the British. Now we have the ability to take them nonstop on Sunday night and have them on site at 8 a.m. the next morning. What a difference it's made in our field.''
