The Board of Public Works by unanimous vote Wednesday authorized the mayor to spend $256,300 to turn a vacant, downtown lot into a 14-space parking lot. The vote to build the parking lot on the southwest corner of Third and Main streets came after the board listened to several residents who opposed the plan and several downtown business owners who supported the plan.

"To spend $256,000 for a parking lot is ludicrous," resident Larry Brown said.
