For Ernestine Willingham Boyd, life and the very universe revolved around the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago Heights. The former substitute teacher spent every waking moment trying to make the center a place of wonder for local children. Even when she was hospitalized with a string of health problems, instead of taking it easy, the Chicago Heights woman called club officials to make sure it ran smoothly and fulfilled its duties to the children. Mrs. Boyd died July 13 at Rush University Medical Center from complications of pneumonia, her family said. She was 52.
