Article: 'Pineapple Express' delivers hazy, crazy fun

Though producer Judd Apatow came from television, his best movies work because they are the opposite of situational comedies. They mine their humor from characters rather than situations.

In "Pineapple Express," a pot comedy Apatow produced along with screenwriter and star Seth Rogen, I laughed not because a loser pothead (Rogen) and his spacey dealer (James Franco) find themselves on the run from a goofy drug lord (Gary Cole). I laughed because the guys on the run are both endearing and really, really funny.
