Article: Ideas culled for corridor rehab

City Hall-commissioned makeovers of Oakton Street and Elmhurst Road in Des Plaines probably began last week.

The city held what is planned to be the first of several discussions with residents of the Oakton/Elmhurst corridor Aug. 14 at Maine West High School to gather ideas for what the locals want their major streets to become. Officials will discuss in the spring what their redevelopment plans will be, and the public can spend the winter telling them what they would like to see.

The city is sure to have ideas of its own; as noted by Mike Conlan, director of community and economic development, both passages are high-traffic, but lined with businesses that do not invite motorists in.
