Ben Stiller has made a lot of Hollywood junk over the past few years, and "Tropic Thunder" feels like an attempt to cleanse these projects from his system. It's nice to know that Stiller has some guilt over the likes of "Starsky & Hutch" (a tepid adaptation of a television show), "Meet the Fockers" (a sell-out sequel) and "Night at the Museum" (special-effects slop). "Tropic Thunder" is Stiller's atonement. Not only does he prove that he still can be funny, he reassures us that he can tell good movies from bad ones - including the bad ones he's made.
