Evanston senior Raphael Stern happened to be out of the country when he received an e-mail this summer from Evanston Township High School physics teacher Mark Vondracek.

Vondracek, known to his students as Doc V, was fine-tuning an iLabs pilot that will allow high school students to run research experiments remotely from their own computers, using equipment at major universities.
