A splash of black squirted into the ditch, then bobbed up on the field-side bank. Wild turkey? Bingo. Not just one, but a flock was feeding in a pumpkin field.
I was ready for the fall scene. The camera was beside me on a deer-scouting/nap run Monday.
It's the season to be ready. Bowhunting for deer and turkey opens in Illinois today.
Most bow hunters will focus on later this month and in early November when big bucks go into rut and lose their common sense.
