VERNON HILLS - Happy New Year!
While it sounds a little early to break out the noisemakers and ring in anohter year, it is exactly the right time for Jewish people. Rosh Hashana (head of the year) started at sundown Monday and ends at sundown tonight. The holiday is an opportunity for families to celebrate together.
The Kramers of Vernon Hills gathered for the new year on Monday evening. The evening kicked off with the traditional lighting of the candles and prayer. Jason and Heidi, along with their children, Hannah, 8, and Joshua, 5, did this as a family.
Jewish prayer sounds like a cross between chanting and singing, and it is always in Hebrew.
