GENOA - A fundraiser held at the Natural Resource Center at Russell Woods Forest Preserve in Genoa this past Saturday was for the birds.
It also raised money for TJ, a 25-pound, 9-year-old tortoise; Duke, a female terrapin; other box turtles; salamanders; and snakes.
Children and adults can see both live creatures and a display of stuffed native wildlife when they visit the nature center.
While the building is owned by the DeKalb County Forest Preserve, it is maintained by University of Illinois Extension staff Peggy Doty, Karen Reed, Mary Crawford, and Connie Handel.
