THE ISSUE: Bids made by Country Club Hills, Calumet City and Harvey for the state's 10th casino license have been rejected by the Illinois Gaming Board. WE SAY: As usual, the south suburbs get snubbed despite a very real need for economic development in this area and a very real need to stop Illinois gambling dollars from heading into Indiana. If the General Assembly remains committed to the idea that casinos should bolster economically struggling towns and encourage tourism, we're dumfounded as to why Rosemont or Des Plaines are in the running.
