Inverness' property tax levy increased more than 5 percent in the face of other declining sources, according to the village administrator.
Building permit fees are down about 50 percent, Inverness Village Administrator Curt Carver said, but that dip in revenue has no impact on the property tax levy, he said.
The property tax levy is used exclusively to pay for the police service contract the village has with Barrington, which lead to the 5 percent increase, he said.
"It went up because our levy is directly tied to the cost of police services," Carver said.
