Elaine Krieger sets a pair of ordinary looking shoes on the counter of her west suburban store, telling a dumbfounded visitor the flats would retail new for something north of $500.

While slightly used, they look as though they've never been worn, and Krieger's new resale shop, Clothes Mentor, prices the black Pradas at a more reasonable $150. You could tuck them inside a Louis Vuitton handbag that costs $190, compared with $1,000 when it was new.
