Six-year-old Cade Todd didn't let the bone-chilling cold stop him from christening a 7-foot log with a healthy dose of red wine Jan. 4 at Morton Arboretum.
Cade, along with his parents Mike and Lisa, sister Tara, 9, and brother Ryan, 11, were the winners in the aboretum's 31st annual Yule Log Hunt.
The Todds, Naperville residents, were among more than 200 participants in the event that has come to be known as a staple of the DuPage County holiday season.
"We are excited," Lisa Todd said. "We're members here, and we've been coming to the hunt the last four years ... it's a tradition."
The event is inspired by an ancient Norse observance.
The Yule Log was part of a traditional celebration ...
