Article: Advisory group tells Zitella downsized project is 'blah'

A proposal to downsize Zitella Development's plans for 6060 N. Northwest Highway, met objections Jan. 7 from the 41st Ward Zoning Advisory Board.

Members had liked the previous designs, which featured red brick with limestone and bronzed copper accents on all four sides. In April 2005, after many meetings had refined a four-story mixed-use proposal, Advisory Board member Dick McDowell, an architect by trade, said it was "one of the most exciting projects I have seen in a long time. It has variety, variation in height."

Architect Sal Gaeta's revised plans, for a 24,000 square-foot, one-story strip mall with retail spaces but no condo units upstairs.
