RICHARD 'DICK' GRIFFIN - 1932-2009
Richard "Dick" Griffin, who helped broaden the readership of business pages as financial editor of the Chicago Daily News, died Thursday of heart disease at age 76.
"He was a good editor, and he expected performance from his staff, and, for the most part, he got it," said former Daily News reporter and editor Rob Warden, with whom he coedited the 1977 book Done in a Day: 100 Years of Great Writing from the Chicago Daily News.
One of the changes Mr. Griffin oversaw at the Daily News was the creation of a "Winners & Losers" feature, listing the week's 10 best-performing and worst-performing stocks. Staff members ran stock numbers through the newspaper's ...
