JOLIET - Empress management and employees for years have been major contributors to needy causes and community campaigns. All of a sudden, they find themselves in trouble after a fire Friday that has shut down the casino.

Empress management expects to have news Monday regarding future pay for its 875 employees.

The casino also will open a human resources office for employees Monday in what is known as the "RV hut" next to the Empress hotel.

"We're going to do everything we can to take care of our employees," Quigley said Saturday. The details of what that will involve should be worked out by Monday afternoon, he said.
