Article: Elmhurst College prof brought urban studies to life

Andrew Prinz was the sort of professor whose courses attracted students, even if their major had nothing to do with his department.

In 1969, Prinz founded Elmhurst College's Department of Urban Studies and built his reputation on bringing cities to life for students. His students would take field trips to the parts of Chicago, Toronto, New Orleans and Washington, D.C., they would not typically see on family vacations.

"His enthusiasm was contagious," said Paul Ries, a former colleague of Prinz's at Elmhurst College.
