Article: Pace moves to spend stimulus money, but not on hybrid buses

Despite increasing pressure from legislators and mayors, particularly Highland Park Mayor Michael Belsky, Pace will not spend its $33 million in money received from the federal government under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on hybrid buses, opting instead for traditional diesel-powered vehicles.

Pace Spokesman Patrick Wilmot said that the agency is supportive of "green" technologies, but that they require more study. The agency is interested in hybrid buses, but can't rule out alternatives such as compressed natural gas and others that screen engines for particulate emissions.
