AURORA - Aldermen moved Tuesday on a plan to convert the old Elks Club building into condos and restaurant space, forwarding it on to a full City Council vote next week.
Meanwhile, the Aurora Election Commission is still considering its options. It occupies the first floor of the building, and will either have to relocate or move into a smaller space in that building to accommodate the new owner's plans. Developer Steve Arwady plans to purchase the four-story, 83-year-old building at Downer Place and Stolp Avenue from the city for $800,000. (The city bought the building in 1999 for $937,000.)
