Article: Sycamore helps fund riders, meals

SYCAMORE - Despite its budget crunch, the city has reached into its pocket to fund grants aimed at helping its most vulnerable residents and encourage philanthropy.

This week, the city council approved $38,000 in grants to various agencies providing services such as Meals on Wheels.

Aldermen approved a $17,000 grant to the Voluntary Action Center to defray organizational expenses associated with TransVAC, which provides about 19,000 trips per year for city residents; MedVac, which provides about 400 trips per year to regional hospitals and other health care facilities; and the Meals on Wheels program, which provides about 11,000 meals for senior citizens and disabled persons.
