Mike Murphy is an avid collector of things. And if he doesn't collect it, he appreciates it. His own collection centers on advertising memorabilia - vintage characters, old metal signs and beverage vessels.
"I grew up around antiques. I was pretty much raised around them," said Murphy, 44, of Aurora. He has been living and breathing antiques for about 35 years. In the 1980s and 1990s, Murphy ran a coin shop in downtown Aurora - following in the footsteps of his grandfather who operated a coin shop downtown in the 1940s and 1950s. "I've seen so much, I haven't really been shocked," he said of the antiques he appraises. At least he hasn't been shocked yet. But maybe that will happen on ...
