Article: Is fireworks show fading for Joliet?

JOLIET - The city's Fourth of July fireworks show is in jeopardy for lack of funds.

Organizers of the event are calling out to residents and businesses for $9,000 in donations needed in the next two weeks to pay for the fireworks.

The cost of the show is more than $23,000, most of which has already been covered by the usual contributors.

But donations from members of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce, usually sufficient to cover a large portion of the costs, have not been enough this year because of economic conditions, said Russ Slinkard, secretary of the Joliet July Fourth Community Committee and chief executive of the chamber.
